3 Painless Ways to Cut Calories Today

Posted on January 21st, 2009 in Diets, Exercise, Weight Loss | No Comments »

Trying to lose weight can be stressful enough on its own with the workouts and eating changes. Add in measuring out quantities of food and you can pretty much count a lot of people out of the whole picture. Fortunately there are a few ways to cut calories that do not drive you nuts in the process.

One of the easiest ways to cut out some major calories is to take your own popcorn when going to the movie theater. This way you can save on calories without having to actually give up anything. You can still have your popcorn. The reason why taking your own popcorn is such a good idea for cutting calories is that the popcorn cooked at the theater is cooked in coconut oil This type of oil is one of the worst for your health. It is full of bad fats that are dangerous to your health and also add a ton of calories. You can get much better alternative popcorn that is not so full of oils at the grocery store.

Dynamic Exercise that Will Save the Planet

Posted on January 21st, 2009 in Exercise | No Comments »

Do you want a low intensity exercise that will burn those calories, increase your heart functioning, and provide a solution to global warming? Take up biking , it’s one of the best forms of exercise and provides the following benefits:

a. Burns around 400 calories an hour for an exercise bike and between 700-800 for a road bike—riding to and from work.

b. Biking builds stamina, increases endurance, and lowers the resting heart rate. People who ride usually have a resting heart rate in the mid to low 60s.

c. Great way to build lower strength and shape your hips, legs, bum, and calves.

Bikes are a true technological genius and can last for decades—I still use the bike I used on my long-distance bike tours and it’s got thousands of miles on it! Your typical good-quality road bike will only cost around $400—very inexpensive when you think about the health and environmental benefits.

Vitamins and Cancer Prevention

Posted on January 20th, 2009 in Cancer | No Comments »

Much has been studied about the role of certain vitamins, minerals and herbs
in cancer prevention. Some of the most promising cancer prevention
properties come from those vitamins that are known as antioxidants.

Antioxidants are substances that protect the body’s cells from damage caused
by dangerous free radicals, which can potentially cause cancer. There are
many different sources of antioxidants, including herbs, vitamins, and
foods. Here are some of the most widely recommended supplements thought to
help prevent cancer by fighting free radicals:

Beta Carotene: Beta carotene is thought to reduce the risk of cancer,
especially lung cancer. Beta carotene is naturally occurring in red and
orange foods such as pumpkin, squash, carrots, and red peppers. Beta
carotene can also be found in dark leafy greens like spinach and kale.

Building Muscle Gain Truth

Posted on January 20th, 2009 in Fitness | No Comments »

Most muscle building programs include this myth about the number of repetitions for fast muscle gain. The truth is this approach places the muscles with not enough tension for effective muscle gain.

High tension, e.g. heavy weights, provides muscle growth in which the muscle grows much larger, leading to the maximum gains in strength. Having longer tension time boosts the muscle size by generating the structure around the muscle fibers, improving endurance.

The standard prescription of eight to twelve repetitions provides a balance but if you just use that program you do not generate the greater tension levels that is provided by heavier weights and lesser reps, and the longer tension achieved with lighter weights and more repetitions. You need to change the number of reps and adjust the weights to stimulate all types of muscle growth.

Perfume Testing - A Quick Guid

Posted on January 20th, 2009 in Beauty | No Comments »

If you’re a perfume lover like me, chances are that a trip to your local high street perfume shop is like letting a child loose in a sweet shop. I just can’t resist the urge touch every bottle and spritz perfume on every available patch of skin, even my husband’s if he’s unlucky enough to be with me at the time. As much fun as this can be, if you’re actually looking for that next signature scent for yourself then this is not exactly the best way to go about testing perfume and here’s why.

You see the human nose is a funny old thing. The more you bombard it with different smells, the more difficult it becomes to differentiate between those smells, something which is obviously pretty important when choosing a fragrance. The general rule seems to be that you shouldn’t test more than three fragrances at a time. I personally would go so far as to say you shouldn’t actually test more than two on your skin at any one time.

Contamination Makes Hairs Healthy

Posted on January 20th, 2009 in Beauty | 2 Comments »

American scientists have suggested an odd theory – they have tried to persuade the world that dirty hair is good for one’s health. In fact, it turns out that this paradoxical idea might lie at the root of creating beautiful and healthy hair.

New scientific research from Missouri University has discovered that dirty hair has a protective function: secretions produced by the head’s oil glands cover hair that incepts ozone intensively. Ozone is a toxic gas which appears as an active compound of oxygen, and in larger quantities, can seriously harm a human being’s health.
As a result of one experiment, it has emerged that dirty hair absorbs seven times more harmful ozone than clean hair does. But scientists still have not explained how it affects the state of hair.
Besides that, in the scientific community there is a common perception that sebaceous matter covering unwashed hair contributes to faster hair growth. It protects hair against environmental influences. As a result, the hair experiences fewer splits and less damage and actually grows faster.
